Animated FBX into particles | TouchDesigner project file

This is a project file from my YouTube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGL1BNI-mgM

It includes the .fbx file and .toe project with comments and tips for troubleshooting. The 3D model was sourced from here and converted into .fbx.


IMPORTANT NOTE:

TouchDesigner supports only .fbx files that include capture attributes (e.g., animations on the root transforms of geometry, blend shapes, skeleton animations). It doesn't support unbaked animations made with modifiers or other animations that lack capture attributes.

How to check if your file has capture attributes:

1. Drag your file into TouchDesigner;

2. Add an Import Select SOP;

3. Drag the component containing your .fbx file onto the Import Select SOP;

4. Assign the Geo Path in the Import Select SOP (click on the arrow and select a suggested option);

5. Middle-click the ImportSelect SOP and check for the following attributes in the bottom of the popup window: Point Attribute: pCapt; Detail Attributes: pCaptStr and pCaptData. If you have them, congrats — you can work with this file! Otherwise, you'll most likely need to bake the animation in 3D software (Blender/C4D/etc) in order to work with it in TouchDesigner.
